Ben Bailey
Vice President
Massachusetts Capital Resource Company


Ben Bailey has been Vice President of Massachusetts Capital Resource Company (MCRC) since 1985. MCRC is a $100 million special purpose limited partnership, privately owned and funded by eight Massachusetts based life insurance companies. MCRC is a source of risk capital for Massachusetts businesses and as such has invested more than $450 million in over 241 companies located in over 100 Massachusetts communities.

At Mass Capital Ben’s responsibilities include new business development and portfolio management. Ben sits on a number of Boards of Directors of his portfolio companies. Prior to joining MCRC Ben spent almost ten years at Bank of Boston as a Vice President in the High Technology Lending Group. During his tenure the group grew from 2 officers to over 30 officers calling through out the United States on companies ranging in size from start-up to billion dollar multi-national companies. Prior to Bank of Boston Ben spent a two-year period at Chemical Bank in New York City.

Ben holds an undergraduate degree in Business from Babson College and a Master’s degree in Business from Columbia University. Ben is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth, and currently serves as its membership Vice President. Ben is also a member of the New England Venture Capital Association, the Small Business Association of New England and for six years (1995-2001) was an appointed member of the National Science Foundation’s Advisory Committee for Industrial Innovation (SBIR). Ben is a member of the Elliot Church’s Finance Committee and is also the Treasurer of the Church’s Endowment Committee. Ben lives in South Natick with his wife Barbara and three daughters.

Ron Lang
President
Ronald Lang & Associates


Ron has held senior management positions in engineering, manufacturing and finance at American Optical, Beckton-Dickinson and Digital Equipment. He was Chief Engineer for the Apollo Space Suit, Portable Life Support Backpack and the Lunar Lander Environmental Control System.

Until 1971, Ron was President of the Biomedical Systems Division of United Technologies Corp. In 1971, he led a management buy-out of the company and founded Vanguard Medical Systems Corp. which was acquired by Beckton-Dickinson in 1974. Ron has lectured extensively to banking, legal and professional organizations on the subject of business turnarounds, corporate re-engineering and management exit strategies. In 1994 he formed a syndicate of “angel” investors who have taken positions in, or acquired, the assets of over a dozen companies. Additionally, Ron serves on the Board of Directors of numerous corporations.

He attended CCNY (BME), Columbia University (MEE) and Baylor University (Physiology).

Tim Conway
President & CEO
NewStar Financial


Timothy J. Conway founded NewStar Financial in June 2004 and serves as its President and Chief Executive Officer. He serves on the Company’s Board of Directors, Management and Investment Committees.

From 1996 to 2002, he managed Corporate Finance and Capital Markets for FleetBoston Financial Corporation. At Fleet, Mr. Conway built a variety of non-investment grade credit and product capabilities including: a cash flow CLO asset management business, a real estate mezzanine fund, a top-tier loan syndication business, a private placements group and an asset securitization business. He was a member of Fleet’s Management, Credit, Policy, and Market Risk Committees. Prior to joining Fleet, Mr. Conway was a Senior Securities Officer of Citicorp Securities Inc. and had responsibility for the bank’s private placement, loan syndication, and acquisition finance businesses. He was a member of Citicorp’s High Yield Commitment Committee. Mr. Conway began his career in finance at Aetna where he was an Investment Director responsible for the purchase and management of privately placed debt securities, including project finance and other structured securities.

Mr. Conway has a B.A. from Fairfield University and an MBA from University of Connecticut.

B. Barrett Hinckley
Founder and President

A creative leader and entrepreneur, Barry founded Bullhorn in 1999 and helped establish the company as the largest and fastest-growing On-Demand service provider of customer relationship management (CRM) software for the staffing and recruiting industry.

With over 19 years of entrepreneurial leadership experience, Barry is the driving force behind Bullhorn’s sales to more than 350 customers around the world, including two of the four largest global staffing firms. Barry’s sales and business management experience has also attracted investors, including General Electric, W.R. Hambrecht and Austin Investments, among others.

Prior to founding Bullhorn, Barry served in sales and leadership positions at GTE Internetworking (Formerly BBN Technologies), the nation’s first ISP, and BSB Digital Charts. As the first employee, he helped grow BSB Digital Charts from a small digital mapping company with one contract into a multi-million dollar company that was sold to CGI, Inc. in 1997.

In 1996, Barry built the nation's first online neighborhood community www.southend.org in Boston. The site received awards from Boston's Mayor Thomas Menino and Police Chief Paul Evans and was successfully replicated in Cleveland, Minneapolis, and Philadelphia.

Barry serves on the board of the Massachusetts Staffing Association and Argus Consulting.

A Maine native, Barry is an accomplished alpine skier. He also flies his own Piper Arrow and has raced sailboats professionally for 10 years. Presently Barry enjoys playing squash and is an avid reader of history.

Barry has a BA from University of Colorado, Boulder. He also graduated from Deerfield Academy and presently serves as an Alumni Chairman.
